I went ahead and did this two more times on my part to create 3 total safe zones: This can be done with any type of shape you can sketch, not just a circle. We'd sketch a circle around that hole and use the Split Line command to make it two separate faces: So let's say we wanted a 'safe' circle around the hole at the top of my part, an area that won't get textured. (I could skip it for my sample part, but if I teach you this step now, you'll be ready for anything in the future.) Now I'm specifically going to make this harder than it needs to be, by using the Split Line command in SOLIDWORKS, to carve out certain areas I do and don't want textures on. And the first thing we're going to do is define the area we want the 2D texture applied to. In the real world, these automotive parts are mass-produced by injection molding, and the leather texture added by acid etching the INSIDE of the injection mold, which adds more expense to an already expensive mold-making process.īut what if an automotive engineer wants to see an early mock-up of what their part MIGHT look like, WITHOUT paying for an entire mold to be cut out of aluminum first? Let's start with an example close to how this feature will probably be used 75%+ of the time in the real world: simulating leather textures on cosmetic automotive parts: Step 2: Applying 2D Textures to Your SOLIDWORKS Parts. Now we're going to look at a new tool in SOLIDWORKS 2019, called "3D Textures," which makes things even EASIER: I've even shown how we can create beautiful, full-colored and displacement-mapped prints using Photoshop, which is a little easier.
UNINSTALL SOLIDWORKS 2019 HOW TO
We've talked before about how to create similar displacement-mapped models for 3D printing in Rhino. Today we're going to cover a topic customers have been asking me about for YEARS: "How do you make 3D textures and repeating patterns on FDM prints, to hide layer lines and make parts more realistic?" (And this technique will work with ANY type of 3D printer, not just Stratasys!)

Keep a eye on webinars at to registration info.Instructions on how to create physical, repeating textures you can FEEL and TOUCH on your 3D prints, using a new feature found in SOLIDWORKS 2019. The number of SOLIDWORKS folders in the programs group is not the only way to check the health of a system, but it sure does clue into what this machine has been through.ĬATI has a webcast coming up on this topic.
UNINSTALL SOLIDWORKS 2019 UPGRADE
Maybe it got upgrade with the rest of SOLIDWORKS, but the point is that this machine is not healthy. If the program file in SOLIDWORKS is like this, where is you toolbox folder? This location has changed of the years. All the ghosts of SOLIDWORKS past right there to haunt you. Let’s face it this machine most likely doesn’t need support, it needs a exorcism. Come on guys! Your machine with SOLIDWORKS, SOLIDWORKS (2), SOLIDWORKS (3) all in the program files? Yeah, not healthy. So this is where thing may get a little blunt. The second reason that I would do tell a customer to uninstall and reinstall would be if I believe that one of the prereqs is the cause of the issue and I think that the customer will find it easier to reinstall the prereqs using the SOLIDWORKS installation manager than trying to uninstall and reinstall the prereqs manually. The whole time that I am controlling that machine I am also trying to get a gut feel for the overall “health” of the system. I then start looking around at the machine depending on the issue maybe I look at graphics drivers, versions of files. This is letting me look right down the throat of the machine. It allows me to look directly at a customer desktop and even take control if I am allowed to do so by the customer. CATI has service that we use called WebEx. And I will tell you why but first I need to go into what I do to look at troublesome machines. Have I ever told a customer to uninstall and reinstall SOLIDWORKS even though I was unsure of the real issue? Without a doubt yes.

I would say that it is time to take a hard look at the mechanic. Well the fact is that I either do or don’t have a bad head gasket, but I refuse to tear it down and just “throw parts” at the problem. I say that this is much like taking you car to a mechanic and him saying that I think that you have a bad head gasket.

I as a tech hate, and I repeat hate telling a customer that they should uninstall and reinstall to try and solve a problem.
